Immediate access to materials: Students are prepared to begin their courses by the first day of class. Perpetual access to course materials, as available from the publisher.
Predictable costs: A flat, low rate reduces overall course materials costs compared to traditional market prices, creating predictability for students. Flat rate is billed for maximum convenience.
Supports sense of belonging and retention: Engagement with peers and faculty within Canvas and additional publisher resources reduces course attrition.
Before the start of each quarter, all UC San Diego students are enrolled in Triton One. This offers students the opportunity to explore the program benefits and their required materials. If a student chooses not to participate at the start of a given quarter, they may opt out of the program and procure their course materials on their own. Key participation dates will be shared with students and families in communications leading up to the start of the quarter and can be viewed in the "Key Dates" section below.
By the first day of classes, students can access the required digital content/textbooks for any course through UC San Diego’s Learning Management System, Canvas.

Students that need assistance with their Canvas or Bookshelf account may contact VitalSource 24/7 via live chat or email.
Students will see the $199 flat rate on their billing statement per quarter. For more information, view the Frequently Asked Questions page.
Students can opt out of the flat fee by the Friday of Week 2 each quarter.
Opt-out will be available through a digital link received via email (at your UC San Diego email address). You may also opt out in Canvas once digital materials are available.
Print textbooks (only available if digital is not an option) will be available for pickup at The UC San Diego Store. Digital textbooks are the default option. Traditional print textbooks will only be supplied when a digital option is not available. You will receive an email if you have any printed textbooks to pick up. The last day to pick up printed textbooks is....
All digital materials will be available through Canvas.
If you opt out of or drop a class and have any print textbooks you received from The UC San Diego Store, you must return them by the Friday of Week 3 each quarter. If you remain opted into Triton One and enrolled in the course using the print textbooks, those materials are yours to keep after the end of the quarter.
